About

Oscar thinking hard
My name is Oscar Bonilla, and you're the man who visited my website, prepare to die! Uh, no... actually, thanks for being here.
I'm from Guatemala and even though I have been living in the San Francisco Bay Area for over five years, I still travel there every year for the holidays.
I had what I now consider a very unusual education. I went to college to Universidad Francisco MarroquĂn in Guatemala, where I got a B.S. in Systems Engineering, Informatics, and Computer Science. What was unusual about it was that we took many more courses in Math and Physics (even in Economics!) than Computer Science, but they ended up helping me a lot with Computer Science.
After graduating, I worked at the university for many years, I used to teach compilers, operating systems, and computer networks to senior undergraduates. I also taught at the masters program.
I enjoy learning above all and will compulsively find out everything I can about any subject. If something I don't know comes up in conversation (e.g. "is CO2 denser than air?") I'm the guy who will google it immediately just because not knowing kills me.
My latest hobby is following the economic downturn closely. I am tracking all the recent developments in economic policy in the U.S. and the world. I read everything that Paul Krugman writes, I'm subscribed to Calculated Risk's blog, and closely follow Simon Johnson and James Kwak's The Baseline Scenario blog.
Can't get enough about me? Check out my resume.

Oscar, I really appreciate your explanation of Bayes Theorem. I think that we may be a lot alike except you are younger and a lot smarter. I have always had the desire to know. Lacking intuition I have to resort to Math. Often I find that what I want to know is not knowable.
